Inflammation Causes Changes in your Ability to Think Clearly

February 13, 2020

An interesting article was published this week in Psychology Today that talks about how inflammation in the body not only causes depression but also alters our mood and even decision making.

About 15 years ago I began to study this link. I even purchased the domain address inflamedbrain.com because I felt that one day this information would become mainstream.

And here we are!

The approach I take to treating patients often involves recommendations that lower inflammation in the body.

The fields of psychology and even sociology will likely evolve to incorporate this new information about how to help people lead more focused and clear lives.

Inflammation and Mental Illness

January 30, 2020

GirlswithPlanetA new study was published that highlights the link between inflammation in the body and mental illness. This is an area that I have been focusing on clinically and in training to physicians and pharmacists for the past twelve years, referring to the condition as “Sickness Syndrome.” There is a very clear link between inflammation in the body and mental illness. Addressing inflammation with a clear plan alleviates many of the symptoms associated with it including depression, anxiety and OCD. For long lasting results, we have to treat the cause of these symptoms rather then masking them. It doesn’t mean psychiatric medications are not helpful, it means we need to broaden the treatment to address one of the underlying causes-inflammation.  I have been researching and working with several forms of glutathione in clinical practice as a simple and effective treatment for “neuroinflammation.” This is an exciting time in medicine, with wonderful discoveries and connections being made that will help children and adults to experience more freedom and to think more clearly.

Compassion Leads to Success

November 18, 2019

An amazing group of young women gathered today at Colony High School, as part of an international and intergenerational leadership program called “Girls Fly,” founded by an equally amazing woman Gael Sylvia Pullen.  The topic was “kindness” and we talked about how acts of kindness develop a part of your brain that makes you more compassionate. And don’t we need more compassion in the world today!  We watched the Kindness Boomerang video to demonstrate kindness in action. And then, there was this moment while presenting, where I realized that the reason patients speak highly about what we do for them is not due to intelligence or hard work (at least it doesn’t feel like hard work). It is due to really caring. And that compassion and care comes from a dedicated practice where you choose to be kind. This translates into a level of focus that allows for the creation of treatment plans that really work.

It is simply a decision.

As Mr. Rogers said so well, ” There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.”

With great hope for the future,

Too Much Exposure: Everyday Chemicals that Can Harm Kids

September 18, 2019

Here is a great article from Harvard Medical School’s health blog that clearly lists some of the main chemicals that we want our kids to steer clear of, and why. At our office we test children for imbalances that are sometimes caused by too much exposure to these chemicals, that can lead to avoidable health problems. They are often referred to as “endocrine disrupters” because they cause hormonal imbalances in the body.

It is a quick read and worth a look!

March 13, 2019

RunningNatureEvery body is unique. We all have individual nutrient needs that cannot be met by simply taking a multivitamin along with the latest highly marketed nutritional supplement that we see on social media or on TV.  That is why I am so pleased to share our new program with you.

The “Personalized Nutrient Two Month Medical Program” includes:

1) An initial medical nutrient intake by phone that is specific to searching for nutrient imbalances that are a cause for your symptoms. Together we will discuss your unique goals and the health challenges you may face.

2) Comprehensive blood and urine lab testing and medical interpretation of the lab results.

3) Follow up medical visit by phone to go over all test results.

4) Customized two month supply of your personalized powdered nutrient formulation based on your symptoms assessment and your urine and blood test results.

You will love the results and can finally feel confident knowing you are taking the nutrient supplements that you need and nothing more, and nothing less. This is a balanced approach to treating the underlying nutrient imbalances that can cause so many of our symptoms today.
