Your article totally supports the entire picture of supporting the body with food, excercise, and supplements that have the power to help correct and or enhance treating the root problem of many chronic diseases. A new area that I am researching is supporting Arterial Health. If the vehicle that carries our blood supply is damaged then how can anything get to where it needs to be properly? It can't.
Ola! Blog,
I take your point, Offshore drilling is a key way to extract crude oil and gas from the earth however many people do not understand that the environmental impacts of offshore oil drilling greatly outweigh the economic benefits. For decades there has been great controversy on possible drilling off the coast of British Columbia, the David Suzeuki Foundation argues that opening up BC’s coastline to offshore drilling is one of the most “destructive things on earth.” This is because it will have a great impact on the environment and boost greenhouse gasses. In the past offshore drilling has triggered pollution, exterminate innocent sea creatures and damaged the national economy. These are all effects that may perhaps occur if the government decided to life the moratorium and drill for oil off the shore of British Columbia.
Offshore oil drilling poses a server risk to the environment and often results in the destruction of marine life. Environmental concerns towards drilling amount to more than just an unease about oil spills. Before the initial drilling for oil begins it is greatly impacting the oceans wild life. First, to find potential oil reserves and during surveying and construction around rig sites, researchers send seismic waves into the ground using acoustic generators. The waves bounce back which produce noise pollution. Animals such as whales and dolphins become disorientated after their sonar is damaged by the sound waves and occasionally beach themselves (Rose). Also specific species of fish have acoustic receptors that may become damaged during the seismic wave testing. Fish’s capacity of hearing allows them to avoid predators or to catch prey. (PCFFA) The oil drilling process can also cause contamination to the water when an oil spill is in operation. Oil spills can cause serious damage and harm to the marine and land animals and plants. Birds die from Hypothermia from loosing water proofing on their feathers caused by contact with oil and plants and animals perish from becoming coated in oil and after ingesting oil covered food. (Rose) Not only do oil spills initiate a threat to the marine life, once oil has been retrieved it must be transported leading further chances that accidents and environmental damage can occur. Offshore drilling disrupts the food chain and reproductive cycles in a variety of ways. (Wingrove) After the recent oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico fish around the oil rigs had a high concentration of mercury, chromium, barium, arsenic, cadmium and other heavy metals making them questionable for consumption. High volumes of heavy metals discharged from the oil rigs disrupt the oceans food chain eventually leading up to man and are found to cause life cycle mutagenic damages to fish eggs.(PCFFA)
One of the main arguments why offshore drilling should not be considered off the coast of British Columbia is the amount of pollution involved. “Off shore drilling causes regular oil leakages, minor spills, and the discharge of toxic drill cuttings, mud’s and fluids into the ocean.” (NDC) Pollution does not only come directly from the source, crude oil, it also creates airborne pollution that contributes to the ongoing epidemic of climate change. The use of oil and oil production has made “significant contributions to global greenhouse gas emissions, increases in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere and the consequent changes to our climate.”(DSF) In 1969 a spill occurred in Santa Barbara, California unleashing 80,000–100,000 barrels of crude oil over a 10-day period. Since then spills explosions and accidents have transpired wherever offshore oil rigs have been constructed. Although the technology has improved over the decades oil drilling is a dirty business that still leads to oil spills due to failed equipment, aberrant weather and human error.
The communities that are located off the coast of British Columbia are greatly dependent on tourism; it is a colossal part of the economy. Although drilling would create “a few direct jobs for the coastal communities, foreign work crews with the necessary specialized skills would be brought in from around the world and oil rigs would be constructed where labour is cheapest.”(NDC) British Columbia is known for its brilliant tourism industry and would be economically vulnerable to the immense impacts of an oil spill. For example people on the coast of Louisiana have started cancelling vacations fearing the arrival of oil on the beaches; causing hotels to cut rates in the end lose a lot of money. (DSF)The David Suzuki foundation claims “A spill would be carried quickly by the nutrient-rich currents, possibly washing up on the mainland, Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii coasts.” A spill would threaten the mammals, salmons, birds and many other plant and animal species devastating our fishing and tourism industries. Spills do not only occur during drilling, British Columbia’s First nations are worried about their fishing grounds if oil w

After watching someone with autism, I starting wondering about a link between stress and autism. I'm so glad to see that someone else is already exploring this link. If you think about how we act when we are severely stressed, there is a resemblance to how children with autism react all the time. At my worst, I don't want anyone near me, I have horrible tics and OCD, I don't care if anyone else exists. Could it be that something in children with autism that would normally keep cortisol, etc in check is simply turned on all the time? Maybe even something with their adrenal gland that then affects their brain? Such that they are essentially in severe stress mode from the moment they are born, or even before. To be constantly in a fight or flight mode 24/7. No wonder they need soothing repetitive actions and why even the slightest bit of extra stress--change in routine for example--can just push them over the edge. Stay up for 48 hours straight and we will act the same way. It could be genetic since it seems to run in families, or as Jen pointed out--could stress during pregnancy cause part of the problem?
