Healthy Meals Equal Better Grades in School

August 28, 2008

One of the most important components to children functioning at their best in school and on the playground is proper nutrition.  The Washington Post just reported on this subject, offering valuable tips and resources  to ensure that your child gets the nutrition he/she needs. Children who eat healthy, satisfying dinners sleep better, and are more alert the following morning. And children who eat a balanced nourishing breakfast and lunch have better neurotransmitter activity and improved concentration during the day.  Supplementation is also an important option to consider in children who are not getting the nutrition their brain and body need, particularly if they are challenged with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Stress Hormone Cortisol Linked to Autism

June 21, 2008

Next month, Dr. Blythe Corbett of the University of California Davis is going to present his research findings on the connection between the  hormone cortisol and stress in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and Tourette syndrome.  Several years ago I began publishing and speaking at physician conferences on the connection between stress, cortisol and mental health disorders.  In clinical practice I am  seeing tremendous improvement in patients with autism, bipolar disorder, and clinical depression when I test for and treat Sickness Syndrome (Inflammation in the Brain connected to stress and the hormone cortisol).

Dr. Corbet will be presenting his research on Thursday, July 17, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute auditorium, 2825 50th St., Sacramento.

Antibacterial Soap no Better then Regular Soap and May be Linked to Autism

June 20, 2008

New research is pointing to a growing concern that antibacterial soaps, and the antibacterial pesticides contained within them, like Triclosan, may be detrimental to pregnant women, infants and young children.  Triclosan is an endocrine disruptor which means that it could also trigger other diseases,  such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and Alzheimer’s.

Antibacterial soaps and household cleaners are used by millions of Americans each day, believing that they are protecting themselves and their families’ health. As it turns out, just because a chemical fights germs does not mean it promotes health. On the contrary, it could be hazardous to your health.

For a list of products that contain this chemical click here.

In medical practice, patients diagnosed with Autism often show improvement when they are placed on a detoxification program. One reason for this improvement in symptoms may be the removal of this and other toxic chemicals that are stored in fat cells.
