Over five years ago while lecturing to a group of medical doctors on the health benefits of detoxification, I reported on the findings from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization where one of their most compelling conclusions was that genetic damage through inappropriate diet may be as significant as genetic mutation brought about by toxic and cancer-causing chemicals
and radiation…
Now, new research is providing additional information on the connection between genetic predisposition, nutrition, and disease. You CAN change your genes through healthy diet and lifestyle! In a small study run by Dr. Dean Ornish, 30 men who were at risk for prostate cancer who chose not to get radiation, chemotherapy, surgery or hormone treatment, were given a lifestyle overhaul including eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products, moderate exercise, and an hour of daily stress management methods such as meditation. They followed this program for 3 months and in that time researchers, who analyzed the subject’s genes through a prostate biopsy, found that the men had changes in activity in about 500 genes, with disease-preventing genes turning ON, and disease promoting genes turning OFF!!! This study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
This puts a new spin on the saying “it’s genetic..so I can’t do anything about it…” It moves us away from excuses and offers hope that you do have the ability to heal yourself naturally, regardless of your genetic profile.
